Clermont, FL Oct Trip

Hey All,

I went out to Clermont in Florida through October with my family and did a bunch of riding behind the ski boat and getting a lot of filming covering it all. Juring my time out there the weather was perfect being around 30 degrees most of it.

So in this past week I have been constantly editing the footage to put together another edit of my riding in the sunshine state and have come out with this video with a event variety of skate tricks and wake to wake stuff, so check it out and let me know what you think.

Enjoy!

Ropes & Wires 2010

Hey all,

Start of October was this years Ropes & Wires!

This year is was as big as last year with a big crowd and lots of entries with teams all over the UK. Having it the same format as last year, each team getting 15mins on the cable and 15mins on the boat. Obviously the aim was to do as many different variations of tricks at high level of dificulty. With all the different divisions like boys, open men and pro, each team had some bangers to throw down and everyone delivered.

Luckily for my team, being once again team Method won open men division with a good strategy of all the team being able to ride boat and cable giving us a good advantage as most riders theses days only ride cable. With this result we won the Limited Edition LF/boxend R&W graphics on the ps3 shape board grind base!

The boys division we saw some new little rippers slayin it and in the pro division team Relentless won lots of money! All in all sick day looking forward to next years!

see ya

Love Jam

Hey all,

Last weekend I was in London at the UKs newest cable park at Liquid Leisure for the Love Jam contest.

This was my first time riding their new cable and I really enjoyed it. The obstacles are fun even though they haven't got many in at the moment and with the island in the middle it doesn't get ridiculously choppy.

So the Love Jam contest was a fun event and a nice day for it too. With all the different categories having plenty of entries it made it even more fun! It was £10 to enter which include practice ride, competition runs and a pizza, really good deal for a competition these days. The riding was in heats of about 10mins, not quite long enough but was still enough to bang out a lot of tricks. Each categories was fun and impressive to watch from the groms to the pros with everyone trying new big tricks to get on top of that podium and big tricks are good crowd pleaser for sure. In my category the wakeskate it was real fun riding with all the other skaters and riding the different obstacles, everyone was killing it on obstacles and flat, an Ozzie shredder came 3rd, Taylor in 2nd and I got 1st winning £250 prize money!

This was a sick event and I'm sure LL will be hosting more like it next summer

Ryan & Tony Birch Memorial contest

Hey all,

Back from a sick weekend last weekend at West Midlands Water Ski Center!

This is a great wakeboard competition in memorial of Ryan and Tony Birch! A whole bunch of riders from around gathered for this event and to have a great time! It was real fun to get back on a wakeboard!

With many different ages we have many different categories with the Jr boys, girls, women, men and open men. We also had a really fun big air kicker comp at night! The event was on the Saturday then there was a fun party at night in celebration. For the boat contest we had a qualifier and then the finals. Everyone rode really well in both, for me i rode well in the qualifier but then unfortunately not so good in the final. In all the categories we have some really good tricks going down and lots of people getting there runs down. Then on the big air kicker comp we all got two hits a it each with everyone going for massive technical tricks! I landed my first hit with a stalefish backside 180 and bailed out on my second hit. my main competitor was kurt as he got a toe 5, there was also other people like Sam W trying an massive toe 9 and getting so close! putting me and Kurt in for the cash prize of £200 lucky for me I came out just on top for this with more technicality. In the bag ha, Everyone killed it the prizes were sick the riders were sick and congrats to everyone on the podiums!

Looking forward to next year!

WINDFEST 2010

Hey all,

Hope everyone it getting out on the water before the winter comes along..

Last week from Thursday to Monday I was a WindFest at Sandbanks way down south in Bournemouth. This was an insane long weekend of my summer and I really enjoyed it!

Windfest is a small festival to do with all different kinds of sports mainly kitesurfing. Some of the other activities that were going on was the Animal bike tour, tight rope walking, The wakeboard and wakeskate pool gap on the beach and many more. Then on an evening was different themed party nights.

The pool gap was built into the beach two pools dug out and filled with the sea water then we had these obstacles in between the pools to hit, a gap roof top, box and a c-rail, all of these rails were fun and a challenge for all of the riders, which made it exciting for the big crowds on Sandbanks. There was riders from all over this year that came over, some from nottingham, sheffield and a few from london aswell as the Dirty South crew that live in that area.

Oli and Liam from the Dirty South helped me out letting me stay with them at Olis place and Miller for making a fun event. Also Parky that runs the Rockstar wakeboard boat down there.

This year was even better than last year with everyone there and all the people I have met. From the riding there was lots going off with all different tricks going down and even some good crashed, always a good crowd pleaser! ha.

It was also fun watching the other sports and having a go at them like the tight rope walking was a real challenge but lots of fun, and the guys there were insane doing seat drops on them and 1 guys was trying backflips and landing back on the rope!

Thanks everyone and all the photographers, this has been a real fun weekend and looking forward to next years Windfest!

TFH Final Stop

Hey all,

Saturday was the Final stop of the Ten Feet High series for 2010!

The final was a great finisher for sure! With the large crowd and lots of competitors ready to end on a high! There was not as many competitors though as some of the other stops. There was only four of us in the wakeskate category but this was good fun as it gave us more time on the water to get all are bangers down.

The conditions were perfect for wakeskate with no wind just butter. In the skate cat. mike came 4th, Will got 3rd, Zander took 2nd and I got 1st, I also took 1st overall getting the highest possible score winning my top four highest scoring results! Fun times! Also in the other categories such as inters a little shredder, Tom at only 13 took 1st and also came 1st in the overall!

Well Done everyone!

Is was a real fun series look forward to next year

Nottingham Cable comp

Hey all,

Last weekend i was at Nottingham cable for a competition. Involving wakeboard and wakeskate, This is Will and Zander's home cable so it was good fun to ride with them there.

It wasn't a massive competition as the cable is quite small, but it was a lot of fun! There was all the locals and some from Sheffield cable that came down for it.

There was the girls, amateur, pro and skate categories, with a few people in each group making it a fun competitive event. I entered the skate and also went in for the pro category on wakeboard for fun, ha. Not doing to well on the wakeboard coming last out of 4 people but it was fun and in wakeskate team rider Zander took 3rd, Will taking 2nd and I got 1st. It was a fun small comp for Nottingham.

See you all tomorrow at the Final of TFH!

TFH Stop 4

Hey Guys,

On Saturday was the 4th stop of the Ten Feet High Series at Sheffield cable.

This was a good fun stop of the series with all the riders riding well and the weather being its usual cloudiness with a bit of sunshine but at least it wasn't really windy. Also in the pro and inters categories there was not so many riders and some where at the cable Europeans i believe. This gave it a closer competition for the wakeboarders. In the skate category we had the usual amount of skaters that we normally have in it for each stop making it a really fun and competitive series but having that many riders makes it fun to ride with everyone at the same time. the podium results for skate were will in 3rd zander in 2nd and I came out on top taking 1st place. Everyone rode well making it a sweet event.

see you all at the Final stop in September

Winch Trip 2010

Hey all,

Last week I went on a winch trip around England with Sim, Reed, Liam and Terry. This was really sick and great experience for me as I havn't done much winching before this trip.

Although we did a large amount of travelling and searching for numerous remote spots to hit, we only got to hit about quarter of the spots we found. But the ones we did hit were really sick!

We started off at boxend and went to the up weir near MK, then to London where we stayed at Sim's place. Thanks Sim. Then bright and early we headed even more south to Bournemouth and on the way we hit this big drop at Yeovilton, which was alot of fun for a big drop afterwards we stayed at Liam's place. Thanks Liam.

Next morning another early start to the day we headed back up north to Shewsbury which had a concrete ledge and a big up weir to hit in a line. Everyone killed it at this spot getting multiple number of tricks up it. We stayed in a Holiday Inn that night then went to Derby and this one spot we found was pretty sick as it was a legit stair set and a good height. After that we headed back to Bedford hitting a good little weir and also hit the up weir near MK again.

This was sweet finding all these spots in the UK, giving us a perspective of actually how many spots there actually is, including all the other spots we found on the way but they were not hittable on the day but it was great to see whats out there for us to winch. Look forward to more winching in the future!

Look out for the next issue of Alliance UK for the photos and more info, also keep and eye on alliancewake.co.uk for the winch trip when its up.

Jr. Boat Nationals

Hey all,

Last weekend was the Junior Boat wakeboard and wakeskate Nationals.

This was a really fun event for the younger wake riders to battle it out for the Junior title. We started off with the qualifying on the saturday with a great standard of riding and then on the sunday was the LCQ (Last Chance Qaulifier) and then the final later on in the day.

The weather conditions werent the best but they arnt most of the time in England ha. Everyone rode well over the whole weekend. I Rode to a good standard on the saturday getting me in the final in both wakeboard and wakeskate. Then My riding wasnt as great on the sunday but you cant always ride your best ha. Though I still placed 2nd on the wakeskate and 3rd on the wakeboard.

Overall this was a great event and thanks to the main sponsor, Ultra Sport Europe and all the other sponsors everyone enjoyed a fun weekend!

Check back soon..

Ten Feet High Stop 3

hey All,

Ten Feet High Stop 3 was a good stop!

This was the best conditions we have had yet for any of the stop this year. with calm conditions and only a little bit of rain ha. But also this stop wasn't so busy as a lot of the pro wakeboarders were at the cable world championships.

Even with less people it was still a great and very enjoyable event! It also gave an opportunity for the less advanced pros to have a good chance of podium. In my category there was still a fair amount of skaters riding so it kept the fun competitiveness to it! Everyone rode well and stuck good tricks, Brandon a local rider came 3rd, Zander came 2nd also putting in a nice kickflip and I came out on top riding the best I have done in a competition yet, taking 1st place! So stoked! good times!

Everyone made it a great event and looking forward to next stop next month..

see you all there

WAKESTOCK!!!

Hey all,

Just been at a massive Festival all weekend! Relentless Wakestock! Largest Wakeboard Festival in Europe based in Abersoch in Wales!

This was my first time at Wakestock and it was a great experience! I heard from last years that it was none stop rain and mud! But this year was a big improvement although it did rain the first two days but after that it was very nice indeed with sunshine and warm even though it was very windy all the riders put on a sick weekend of riding!

Also this year Wakestock became one of the WWA Stops of the world series so the top athletes from all over the world joined at Wakestock to party and compete for lots of $dollars! There were top riders from the likes of Aaron Rathy, Phil Soven, Randall Harris, Adam Errington, Dean Smith, Amber Wing, Nicola Butler and many more insane riders!

There was two sides to the riding over the weekend, being the boat contest and the pool gap contest. The boat side of is was the main attraction in the sport as it was at the marina in the harbour of Abersoch! There was two big rails in the harbour, one being the Leviathan which is the famous box, wall ride obstacle and another being the massive roof top and this thing was huge!

Over the weekend it started out with the qualifying rounds on the boat and on the pool gap for wakeboard. Then each time it came down to less and less riders for the semis and the finals on the Sunday. For the wakeskating, not so much going on but we got a couple of sessions on the pool gap but wasn't really enough to get into it as the rails where big and designed for wakeboarders. Hopefully next year they give a little more for the wakeskaters to do.

As it was a massive festival there were lots of bands playing over the whole weekend, great music in the big tents and the main stage. Music from bands like The Ting Tings, Futureheads, Feeder also Tiny tempah, Zane Lowe and many more great acts including Pritchard and Dainton!

So the awards were celebrated on the sunday night of Wakestock, the last night and it was a good one. The top riders coming out on top on the boat contest were, 3rd Austin Hair, 2nd Aaron Rathy and ontop of his game was Phil Soven taking 1st place! The Woman was 3rd Robbi Rendo, 2nd Nicola Butler and 1st was Australian rider Amber Wing! Also Will Bradley taking the best overall rider for wakeskate!

This whole weekend was incredible and so much fun to watch and be apart of the riding and the night life was very much enjoyable!!

Looking forward to 2011 Wakestock! Don't miss out!

Open Boat Nationals 2010

Hey Guys,

Just had a sick weekend at the Open Nationals at Ten 80 near Tamworth.

This was a really enjoyable weekend for everyone as it was so hot! The vide from all the riders and spectators was great keeping the weekend of shredding pumped! There was just a smaller amount of riders there than last year but that didnt stop it from being an awesome weekend. Everyone was killing it on the water and I rode well also coming on top with 1st place podium on the wakeskate and 3rd place podium finish on the wakeboard, this was a great achievement for me as I havnt ridden a wakeboard properly in a few months. So, totally stoked!

WAKESTOCK THIS WEEKEND!

TFH Stop 2

Hey All,

Last weekend was the second stop of the Ten Feet High series!

This was just as great as the last one with a massive crowd again and loads of rider making it bigger and better each stop.

This time there was also the first cable stop of the Pro Wakeboard Tour. The tour hasn't been going for a while and its great to see they have brought it back into play for those top UK pro wakeboarders. Good Times for sure!

The TFH was fun with not the best of weather though as it was incredibly windy on the day of the event! But it was still fun to ride with the other wakeskaters. Unfortunately I didn't ride my best placing me 3rd on the podium. It was quite difficult for everyone to ride in those conditions. Well done to Will for taking 1st place and Brandon for taking 2nd!

Next event is the British Open Nationals next weekend!

Check them out from LukeGartsidePhotography!

Thanks Luke nice work! There sick!

TFH Stop 1

Hey all,

Hope Everyone is doing good and been shreddin up the water while we've had this insane weather because I have!

Ten Feet High Sheffield cable Stop 1.

This was my first cable comp of the year and it was a sick one to start the season off! The comp was so much fun with it getting bigger and better each year, seeing new faces not only the wakeboard categories but also my main event the wakeskate category, which makes it all the more competition and all the more fun!

I was also lovin riding my new ride from Ultra Sport Europe, Liquid Force, the Obscura SST, 40.5 Danny Hampson. I was killin it on this skate out in Florida in the heat and to be back here, now its insane this incredible weather. Florida weather!

I rode in the wakeboard, inters and wakeskate divisions. Unfortunately my skills on a wakeboard weren't up to standard in this category ending me near last haha, but gladly I rode well to bring it home on the wakeskate coming in 1st place! This was a right result for my first cable comp of the season!

photos curtesy of TomBlacklockPhotography!

Thanks Tom you beast! Tom is a good friend and a fellow shredder, also farely new to the photography side of wake sports.

keep checking in guys for more adventure like next weekend THINKTANK Wakeskate Jam!

Obscura SST Wakeskate

Hey all,

Hope everyone had a great Easter!

The start of this holiday I received the Obscura SST wakeskate from Liquid Force. Even though this is my first couple of weeks back on the water after surgery in February I have still managed to shred this board.

I very much enjoy riding this board especially behind the boat, its perfect behind the boat as it is a Bi-level so the bottom deck is a continuous rocker giving it speed into the wake and a smooth ride.

The top deck of this wakeskate is concave shape like a skateboard so its good for the skate tricks. Because of it being split at the ends it gives a great pop. The SST is composite on the top deck and bottom deck so it will last longer on the rails than a wood wakeskate.

check out the pics

Thanks to Ultra Sport Europe and Liquid Force

Riding in Cold Florida.

Hey Guys,

The whole time I was in Florida, the weather was terrible, the worst I've seen it ever...

The first two weeks where worse than what it was in England and pretty much the whole time I was in my psycho 2 wetsuit and I even bought some gloves that are psycho wetsuit material to wear when I was riding. It was that bad.

I was pretty shocked of the conditions as I came out to the States to ride in good weather rather than breaking the ice to ride back home.

Although I did fight through it and overcome the cold. I did get quite a lot of riding in which improved my skills on wakeskate and wakeboard, behind the boat and on the cable. It also was a great experience meeting new people and watching some pros ride. I feel I have learnt a fair bit in all aspects of my riding but if it was warmer I would have learnt more.

Thanks to Cobe and Tarah Mikacich and Jon Bemis for having me all that time at OWC. I look forward to coming back soon.
This was one of the worst days in Orlando at Lake Holden.

When things go wrong...

Hi everybody,
I'm back but this time its not so good..

During my stay in Florida I had a wakeboarding injury and damaged the meniscus in my left knee. This happened while I was wakeboarding on the cable at OWC.

It Happened on a Sunday about two hours before my family flew over. It was difficult for me as i could not straighten my leg or bend it any further than it already was, I tried to stand up but I just fell back down and I was kind of lost in a way because I have never experienced anything that has cause so much pain and damage to my body.
I was in the shallow water struggling to move and friends that came to pick me up to take me home, were watching me ride and they came over to see if I was alright. They carried me to a bench to see what my problem was, I kind of new what happened as I had a problem with loose cartilage in this knee before and I was told that it could get worse and of course it has.

Our friends took me back to theirs until my family got to the house, I kept icing my knee and heating it.
The next day we went to see the doctors not just any doctors, Dr Ray and Dr Varma these guys are the two main guys for knee injuries as many skiers and riders told us. So we went to see them and we felt confident that we were in the right place straight away.
After an x-ray, and later that day an MRI scan. We got the result on the Thursday and they said that the meniscus which is the cartilage disk that's used as a bushing to stop the two bones from rubbing together, had snapped on the left side and then folded underneath itself and wedged in that position, so I would have to have an operation Next day! Friday I had the operation around 9:45 it last around 45 minutes for key hole surgery to fold the meniscus back in place and pin it down. It went quick for me because they gave me anesthesia to put me to sleep. I woke up after the operation and had a good chat with one of the nurses about the sport I do and she was saying that they get a lot of wakeboarders come in for surgery with Dr Varma and Dr Ray after blowing out their knees. My knee was in a bit of pain after the surgery and the doctor gave me a prescription for painkillers, anti-inflammatory and muscle spasm he also said to keep my leg in a brace to hold it straight and to keep using the crutches for 5 weeks until I go back out to Florida.
Thank you to Dr Varma and Dr Ray of NTC in Clermont I appreciate all you did and am now recovering and hope to ride again soon.

WalMart Cart Boy!

Can't wait to get riding again!

Obscura Impulse Wakeskate

Hey Guys

During my stay in Florida I have been having a lot of riding time and trying out a new wakeskate. This is a wooden concave wakeskate Danny Hampson pro model 40.5". I really like this skate because it has that skateboard feel to it and it has really good pop and I have even landed a couple new tricks on it within the first few rides.

Its a shame about the weather as its blooming freezing here at the moment and has been really cold since Christmas. Check out the pic, I'm in a psycho 2 wetsuit, but as long as its sunny! :)
I fly home on Saturday when the weather is going to warm up.. but Ill be back out here in March for more shredding.

Skateboarding

Hi Everybody
I am enjoying my time in Florida and doing plenty of wakeskating and skateboard on those cold days. With a little help from my bro, we hit the streets and got some different variations of shots.
Today we went into Orlando as the weather was terrible and I went to the Vans Skatepark for a couple of hours while the rest of the family went shopping. The skatepark is mainly based indoors but has a small outdoor section which was drenched from the rain. Its a good skatepark as it has all different varieties of skateboarding from the vert ramp to the bowl and the street skate section. The park also has a shop inside with all the vans gear you would ever need along with their back wall completely covered in skate decks.

America

Hey Guys

Wishing everyone a late Christmas and New years!

We had a snowy journey to the the airport Christmas morning thinking about the sunshine state, Florida. As we were travelling all day on Christmas day it didn't feel very Christmasy but I was excited about riding in the hot sunshine.

Unfortunately this was not the case with very cold temperatures nearly as cold as England. So it actually feel like WINTER training, ahaa. At least there is calm water and a boat to ski behind.

Ill keep you posted over my time in the States and Happy Holidays!
